Transfer Procedure for F-1 students:

Step 1 - Provide an official acceptance letter to the undergraduate or graduate school program, English Language Institute (ELI), or International Special Student (ISS) program at Gallaudet University.

Step 2 - Submit a completed Certification of Finances (COF) Form with supporting documents.

Step 3 - Once the Certification of Finances is verified, the student will notify their current school of their intention to transfer.

Step 4 - Complete Part 1 of the F-1 Transfer Information Form once the student has been admitted to Gallaudet University and decides to attend.

Step 5 - Have the international student advisor complete Part II at the student’s current university.

  • The student and international student advisor must decide when the student wishes to have their SEVIS record electronically released to Gallaudet University.
  • Once the form has been completed, it will be submitted electronically to Gallaudet University's ISSS.

Step 6 - After the date that the student’s SEVIS record has been released from their current institution to Gallaudet University, ISSS will issue a Form I-20 in one of two ways:

  • If the student plans to travel outside the U.S., they may contact ISSS at isss@gallaudet.edu and request a Gallaudet Form I-20. After returning to the U.S., the student must attend ISSS check-in during International Student Orientation (ISO). They must bring their current Form I-20, passport, and I-194 to the check-in.
  • If the student doesn't plan to travel outside the U.S., they must go to ISSS check-in during ISO and bring their current I-20 Form, passport, and I-194 to the check-in.

Step 7 - Once the student has checked in, they must complete Business Registration and enroll in your classes, then notify ISSS by email at isss@gallaudet.edu. Their new I-20 will then be issued within seven business days.
